Willem flips the script. He adds strange, artificial objects to everyday streets. A drainpipe that doesn’t drain. A swing set with no seat. You’re not sure if it’s real, or if you’re part of a movie scene. His work pokes at the rules of public space.

Willem de Haan (1996) challenges and undermines the socially conditioned and politically determined rules of public space. He adds props – strange, convincing, slightly uncanny – to twist how we experience everyday life. His sculptural interventions are inspired by fiction and film, but rooted in the real.
Willem works across Europe, with projects made in Rotterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, Antwerp, Vienna and more. His ambition? To create iconic, playful, and locally resonant scenarios – formed through a sharp visual language and just eight years of professional practice.
