Statement Museum Villa

We regret to announce that Museum Villa will close its doors from Wednesday, 15 April onwards.

Museum Villa was founded with great care, dedication, and love as a place for innovative contemporary art at Cultuurpark Westergas. It was an ambitious private initiative, without public funding, at a time when the museum and cultural sector are under significant pressure.

Despite the strong involvement of artists, investors, and the support of Westergas, the high appreciation from visitors (4.9 on Google), school groups, local residents, and positive media coverage, the museum was unable to achieve the visitor numbers required. The funding needed to give Museum Villa the opportunity to develop in a sustainable way ultimately proved unattainable.

We deeply regret that this special place has existed only for such a short time. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported and visited us, especially the artists who exhibited their work with us.

Bankruptcy has now been formally declared. In consultation with the court-appointed trustee, possibilities for a restart are currently being explored.

Statement Westergas

Statement Westergas

We deeply regret that Museum Villa must close. For us, the museum was a highly valuable addition to Cultuurpark Westergas. Westergas B.V. and Westergas Vastgoed C.V. therefore did everything they could to support the initiative wherever possible.

In challenging times for museums across the country, Villa was an ambitious private project by three young, creative entrepreneurs — full of courage, experimentation, and taste. Exactly the kind of initiative that belongs in the city and at Westergas. Naturally, we will continue to look for an appropriate cultural use for the building in order to further strengthen Cultuurpark Westergas.
